In the year 1925, a devoted group of worshippers in Huntington, inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Elder Edmund Tillery's ministry in Ashland, Ky., embarked on a journey of faith. Fueled by the fervor of the Pentecostal experience and armed with knowledge of the apostolic message, they sought divine guidance to establish a congregation in Huntington. This led to the formation of the Full Gospel Mission, with Evangelist Cora Duckworth, known as "Mother Duckworth," as the founding pastor. The church's early days saw humble beginnings in rented spaces on Artisan Avenue and later Eighth Avenue.
In 1935, recognizing the benefits of being part of a larger organization, the Full Gospel Mission affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. This marked a significant step in the church's development. After some personal tragedy, Elder Walter Nichols briefly took over the pastorate before Mother Duckworth resumed leadership. Under her guidance, the congregation continued to prosper, purchased property, and moved to a quaint sanctuary on Ninth Avenue.
In 1954, Elder M. L. Sanders assumed the pastorate, traveling faithfully by train from Williamson. Under his leadership, a building fund was established to construct a new sanctuary. Elder Sanders stayed with the Full Gospel Mission until 1959. In 1960, Elder C. U. Moore took charge, overseeing the construction of a new sanctuary at 1673 9th Ave. Despite challenges in acquiring additional property for off-street parking, Elder Moore's dedication prevailed. He even purchased the property in his name, turning the deed over to the church trustees with an agreement for repayment. The newly constructed sanctuary was completed in 1962, ushering in a period of growth and development. Elder Moore remained pastor until his passing in February 1983.
Following Elder Moore's passing, Diocesan Bishop B. T. Jones took oversight of the church and appointed Elder Samuel R. Moore from Bluefield (WV) as the new pastor in July 1983. Under Pastor Moore's leadership, both membership and church service attendance steadily increased, and various church auxiliaries were restructured. To enhance the church's community presence, the name was changed to "Full Gospel Assembly." Numerous new ministries were established, including outreach for children, support groups for African-American males, a Married Couples Ministry, Tape Ministry, Word Alive Sunday, and more. In December 2000, the congregation moved to its current location at 2101-2111 10th Avenue, believing in their limitless potential to serve the Lord faithfully.
